Abstract
Since the earthquakes are the most devastating and unpredictable of all natural disasters. Hence, it is necessary to identify the performance of building during earthquake, especially irregular buildings. The present paper made an attempt to study the building models with plan irregularities. This paper presents the performance of the symmetric and asymmetric buildings subjecting to seismic loads. The guidelines and the methodology of the Indian standard of practice IS 1893 (Part I): 2002 is used to analyze the structures. For the study reentrant corner L-shaped and T-shaped building with G+15 storey are considered, which are constructed on medium soil in seismic zone V of India. In order to identify the most vulnerable building among the models considered, nonlinear static pushover analysis method is used. Most vulnerable models are retrofitted with steel X bracing. It is concluded that T shape building is most vulnerable to earthquake than the L shape building and the performance of the models is increased with steel X bracing.
Keywords: Re-entrant corner building, pushover analysis, seismic performance, Retrofitting with X steel bracing.
