Abstract
To study the transient flow in homogeneous gas-liquid mixtures in deformable pipes, a mathematical model based on the gas-fluid mass ratio is presented. The density of the fluid is defined by an average of both fluid components. A relationship between the pressure and the cross-section of the pipe is developed taking into account the fluid-structure interaction. The two constitutive equations, conservation of mass and momentum, yield a set of partial differential equations which are solved by the irregular grid method characteristics method. The obtained results show that the pressure wave propagation is significantly influenced by the fluid compressibility and the pipe wall elasticity.
