Assessment of Energy Performances of a Sulfuric Acid Production Unit using Exergy Analysis

Abstract

 

This study deals with the exergetic assessment of a sulfuric acid production unit. It aims to evaluate the performance of the system and show the sources of irreversibility. The sulfuric acid production unit produces sulfuric acid from liquid sulfur, using double absorption contract process. Such technique is applied to raise the conversion of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and therefore reduce the emission of SO2 in the gas rejected to the atmosphere. The results of this study show that the overall efficiency of the studied unit is about 55.54%. Furthermore a comparison between rational and utilizable efficiencies of the main equipments of the unit is made for the best evaluation of causes of exergy destruction.
