Abstract
Spectroscopic properties of Malachite green (MG) confined in porous matrix of sol gel silica glasses is studied extensively. Variation of absorbance and fluorescence intensities, radiative and non-radiative transition probabilities with dye concentration in the glasses is reported. Observed fluorescence quantum yield of MG is increased in the matrices by an order of ~103 compared to that in solution. Decay time of fluorescence in the matrix is in the range of 2.90 ns to 3.58 ns.
